Gary V. Schanz

Gary Vernon Schanz, 59, of Mascoutah, IL, born May 11, 1954 in Belleville, IL, died Monday, May 13, 2013 at his home.

Gary was an electrician for 35 years; a member of IBEW Local 309. He was an avid Ham radio operator (KC9RET); and he also enjoyed fishing and hunting.


He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon L. Schanz; and a brother Larry Schanz in infancy.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda Jo, nee Knight, Schanz whom he married in Belleville, IL on Mar. 17, 2005; three children, G. Matthew (Sara R.) Schanz of Columbia, IL, Amy Cooper of Belleville, IL, and Cari Schanz (fiancé James Hogan) of Belleville, IL; and his mother, Dorothy B., nee Krausz, Schanz of Mascoutah, IL.

In accordance with Gary’s wishes, cremation will be held and there will be no services.
