Lawrence E. Sauerhage, 82, of Lively Grove, IL, born Apr. 4, 1931 in Ava, IL, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis, MO.
Lawrence was a farmer, and was a retired civil service employee at Scott AFB where he worked for 30 years. He was past commander and life member of the Mascoutah VFW Post 7682; a lifelong member of St. Libory American Legion Post 683; and a U. S. Navy Korean War veteran.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Olinda, nee Beck, Sauerhage; a daughter, Rebecca in infancy; two brothers, Adrian and Ernest Sauerhage; and three sisters, Caroline McKinney, Roma Walker, and Geraldine Steffen.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen A., nee Seering, Sauerhage whom he married in Newport, RI on July 10, 1954; a daughter, Deb Sauerhage of Lively Grove, IL; a grandson, Ben Sauerhage of Lively Grove, IL; three brothers, Charles (Helen) Sauerhage of Mascoutah, IL; Ralph (Betty) Sauerhage of Oakdale, IL, and Troy Sauerhage of Mascoutah, IL; two sisters, Kathleen Rueter of Mascoutah, IL, and Lorretta (Stanley) Seering of Darmstadt, IL; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made St. Libory Fire Department and First Responders; or St. Libory American Legion Veterans Memorial.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Monday Aug. 5, 2013 at the Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
Funeral: A funeral service will be held 10 AM Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah with Rev. Dennis Voss officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Lively Grove, IL.
