Aloysius E. “Pepso” Mattern, of Mascoutah, IL born June 9, 1941, in Belleville, IL died Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.
Pepso was a retired laborer and worked for Kilian Corp. for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, card player and a clock repairman. He was a member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah, IL, Laborers Local 742, Mascoutah, Knights of Columbus Council 4380 and 4th Degree member, Mascoutah Moose Lodge #815, Serra Club, and former Trustee of Mascoutah Township and Mascoutah Surface Water Protection District.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvis J. and Virginia E., nee Baehr, Mattern, sister-in-law, Sharon Mattern, brother-in-law, Lanny Richter and a niece.
He is survived by his wife, Margie J., nee Richter, Mattern; son, Dean Mattern; daughter, Michelle Bauer; five grandchildren, Candice (Dave) McDonald, Alex Bauer, Baley Bauer, Addyson (Ben) Grah, and Aidan Mattern; three great grandchildren, Max and Sloane McDonald, Levi Grah; brother, Keith Mattern; sister, Kay Ellen (Larry) Keilbach; and nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: From 4 to 7 PM Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, and from 9 to 9:30 AM Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.
FUNERAL: A funeral Mass will be held 10 AM Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah with Father Mark Stec celebrating. Burial will follow in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery.
