Burl Wayne Hand III, D.D.S., 70, of Mascoutah, IL formally of Freeburg, IL born Feb. 4, 1956, in Granite City, IL died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at his home.
Burl retired as the owner and operator of Freeburg Family Dental for 37 years. He was a 1974 graduate of Granite City High School, 1978 graduate of University of Illinois, and 1982 graduate of University of Illinois of Chicago Dental School. Burl was a member of the Belleville First Church of the Nazarene, Freeburg Masonic Lodge 418, and the St. Clair County Dental Society. Burl was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a devoted Christian man who loved his church and family.
He is preceded in death his father, Burl Wayne Hand, Jr., and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra (Mike) Weiss.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred E., nee Montgomery, Hand of Granite City, IL; his wife, Judy J. Nicholas, whom he married in Granite City, IL on Aug. 29, 1981; two sons, Garth Michael (Amanda) Hand of St. Peters, MO, Erik Burl (Dr. Denise) Hand of Mascoutah, IL; three grandchildren, Margaret, Christina, and Tarik Hand; a sister, Sally Mullen; two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Rick) Herrington, Debra (Mike) Smith; a brother-in-law, Michael (Diane) Nicholas; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

VISITAION: From 1 to 4 PM Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at the Belleville First Church of the Nazarene.
FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held at 4 PM Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at the church with Pastor Nicole Cotton officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Mascoutah City Cemetery.
