David "Shorty" L Groff

David L. “Shorty” Groff, 78, of Mascoutah, IL, born March 28, 1947, in Clinton, MO died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at his home.

Shorty was a retired installer and repairman on business systems for Verizon, a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Mascoutah, lifetime member of Mascoutah Sportsman’s Club, flagman and lifetime member of Allied Auto Racing Assn., Mascoutah Bowling League for over 50 years, member of the former Mascoutah Bass Casters Club and a United States Army Reserves veteran of the 892nd Transportation Unit in Belleville, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Forest P. and Anna Margaret, nee Gilbert, Groff, stepmother, Irma Ruth, nee Walden, Groff and a brother, Wayne Groff.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, nee Weilmuenster, Groff; his children, Angela (Rodney) Menard, Michael (Jennifer) Groff; four grandchildren, Riley and Austin Menard, Madelyn (Andrew) Benner and Gavin Groff and dear friend, Madison Stein; great grandson, Lane Benner; two brothers, Jim (Joan Sue) Groff and Jim (Diane) Brack; sister, Peggy Sue Hills; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pat (Wayne) Laramore and Rick (Diane) Weilmuenster; god children, Amy Laramore and Chad Weilmuenster; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

VISITATION: From 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL and Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, from 9 to 10 AM at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah, IL.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, at St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. Cherie Hambleton officiating. Burial will follow in Mascoutah City Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
