Erica Maree Hommel

Erica Maree Hommel, 36, of San Diego, CA, born Jan. 11, 1989, in Belleville, IL, died Thursday, July 17, 2025, at her residence in San Diego.

Erica was a devoted pediatric nurse at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. During her time at Rady she received several DAISY awards for her compassionate care for her patients.

Though her time here was too short, her impact was immeasurable. She made the world a better place and always tried to spread kindness everywhere she went.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Genevieve “Genny” Hommel, uncles, Mark, Tom, and John Goodman.

Erica is survived by her father, Michael Hommel of Mascoutah; a sister, Amanda Hommel (Gregory Sweet) of Shiloh; aunts and uncles, Patricia (Frank) Robles, Tim (Julia) Hommel, Jim (Shirley) Goodman, Bill (Kathy) Goodman, Melody Goodman, Mary (Allen) Friedman, Suzann (Terry) Mueller, Jeff (Deborah) Goodman, and Jerry Goodman (Susan Lukavsky).

Visitation:  From 4 to 7 PM Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, and from 9 to 10 AM Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.

Funeral:  There will be a memorial service 10 AM Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at Moll Funeral Home with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Childhood Catholic Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
