Jean Marie Buskirk, nee Mudd, 91, of Mascoutah, IL, passed away, peacefully on July 4, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. Born on October 4, 1934, in Prairie du Rocher, IL.
Jean owned and operated Sunrise Ceramics in Bellville. Jean built a life anchored in faith, family, and simple joys that she shared generously with all who knew her. A devoted member of Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah, Jean found strength and community in her faith. She had a gifted touch for ceramics, a green thumb in the garden, and a love of fishing that reflected her appreciation for quiet mornings and nature’s rhythms. Around the card table with family, her laughter and friendly competitiveness were trademarks of many happy gatherings. Above all, Jean cherished time with her family, taking pride in their milestones and offering steady encouragement and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Theresa Fitzsimmons, four brothers, and two sisters.
Jean is survived by her husband, Leroy, of 46 years of marriage; her children, along with their spouses/partners, Tom Underhill and Danna, Linda Packard, née Underhill, Robert Underhill and Sug Horn, and Cheryl Gass, née Underhill, and Robert. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, a brother, two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 333 Salem Place, Suite 165, Fairview Heights, IL 62208.
The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their care and support to Jean, and her family and extends heartfelt thanks to those who have offered prayers and support during this time and invite all who knew Jean to remember her by tending to a garden, enjoying a game of cards with loved ones, or simply spending an unhurried afternoon with family—the moments she treasured most.
