Jeffrey R. Bernal

   Jeffrey R. Bernal, 69, of Swansea, IL born October 1, 1956, in St. Louis, MO, died Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

   Jeffrey was a retired teacher from the St. Louis Public School District. Jeff enjoyed traveling and going to his daughter’s softball games.

   He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond S. Bernal, a nephew, Colin Rapp, father-in-law, Vincent J. Byrne, Sr., sister-in-law, Vivian Byrne.

   He is survived by his mother, Mary Lee C. Bernal, nee Zitsmann; his wife of 36 years, Katherine M., nee Byrne, Bernal; three daughters, Mary Katherine Bernal, Meagan Bernal, Melissa Bernal; one sister, Kathryn (Bill) Rapp; three brothers, Tom (Chris) Bernal, Michael Bernal, David (Victoria) Bernal; 10 nieces and nephews, Lauren, Kyle, Erin, Maggie, Caitlin, Allison, Ashley, Ryan, Nicole, and Julia; mother-in-law, Marilyn Byrne; three brothers-in-law; also survived by numerous great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

   FUNERAL: There will be a funeral Mass 10 AM Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at Holy Childhood Catholic Church, Mascoutah, IL with Father Paul Wienhoff celebrating. Burial will follow in Mascoutah City Cemetery, Mascoutah, IL.
