John C. Knoebel, Sr.

John C. Knoebel, Sr., 98, of Belleville, IL, born in Shiloh Valley Township, IL, died Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL

He was a retired farmer and auctioneer; a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville, IL; Shiloh Valley Grange; St. Clair County Pamona Grange; National Auctioneers Assoc.; Illinois Auctioneers Assn.; St. Clair County Farm Bureau; Mascoutah Senior Center; the Mascoutah Senior Zumba; and was a graduate of Belleville Area College.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Louis and Elizabeth, nee Rochelle, Knoebel; his wife, Helen, nee Leber, Knoebel whom he married in Belleville, IL on May 12, 1946 and who died Sept. 25, 1998; a grandson, John C. Knoebel III; two sisters, Emma Strack, and Wilma Kniepkamp.

He survived by a son, John C. (Cleta L. Dempsey-Knoebel) Knoebel, Jr. of Lebanon, IL; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Knoebel of Belleville, IL, and Jane K. (Breez) Graham of Belleville, IL; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: friends may call from 3 to 8 PM Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL; and from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL.  There will be a Shiloh Valley Grange Ritual at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral: funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, March 26, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville with Pastor Brian E. Downs officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Mount Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
