John H. McCants, Jr.

John H. McCants, Jr., 87, of Mascoutah, IL, born Feb. 18, 1938, in Ridgeville, SC, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, at his home.

John retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years of service, and retired from civil service at Scott Air Force Base after another 29 years of service. He was a founding member of New Life in Christ Interdenominational Church in O’Fallon, IL and a member of the Mascoutah Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Elouise McCants, Sr. and seven of his siblings.

John is survived by his wife, Redella, nee Berry, McCants; three sons, Carl (Diann) McCants, Clayton (Dawn) McCants, Clifford (Sharissa) McCants; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Miranda) McCants, Marcia McCants, Morgan McCants, Myles (Shene) McCants, Lauren McCants, Nicholas McCants; four bonus grandchildren Alex Lane, Chance Woods, Moriah Woods, and Cam’Ron Holcomb; four great-grandchildren, Judah and Camille McCants, Kairo and Amaris McCants; sister, Margaret Jeffers; and sisters-in-law, Louvenia McCants, Rachel Cooper, and Sallie Berry.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at New Life in Christ Interdenominational Church with Bishop Geoffrey V. Dudley officiating. Burial will be in Dorchester, SC later this month.
