Keith K. Grodeon, 92, of Mascoutah, IL passed away peacefully on Apr. 24, 2026, at Brightly Senior Living in Mascoutah.
Keith was born on November 26, 1933, in his grandparents’ farmhouse south of Mascoutah. As a young boy, he loved to spend time outdoors hunting or just walking in the woods down by his parents’ clubhouse along the Kaskaskia River. Keith and Donna met at Mascoutah High School at the beginning of his senior year in 1951 and were married on January 1, 1953. He played high school basketball and baseball and continued with baseball while in the Air Force, and softball in later years at the VFW in Mascoutah. At 6 a.m. every Tuesday morning for many years, he bowled with the breakfast league at Mascoutah Community Lanes. His love of sports continued throughout his life as a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan! He especially loved spending one-on-one time with each of his girls at Cardinal Straight-A Ticket games. His first priority was always to get a program so he could teach them how to keep score. Keith was his daughters’ biggest fan at all their school activities.
Prior to Keith’s 53-year State Farm career, he served in the USAF and then worked at Emersen Electric in St. Louis. During his time as a State Farm agent, he and Donna worked together in his office for many years. They enjoyed traveling to State Farm conventions, as well as with family and many groups of close friends. Some of their favorite destinations were Destin, Florida, England, and Madeline Island.
Keith’s love of Mascoutah was evident as he served in several groups and organizations: Mascoutah Sportsmen’s Club, St. John United Church of Christ, and Mascoutah Rotary Club where he served as president and remains on the rolls as honorary lifetime member.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold V. and Florence A., nee Herts, Grodeon, his wife, Donna E. nee Legler, Grodeon, who died on Oct. 17, 2024, and who always referred to him as “the love of my life,” two sisters-in-law, Shirley Carrillo Tyree, June Grodeon, a brother-in-law, Earl James Bass, Jr.
Keith is survived by his daughters, Kim (Brent) Bergheger, Lisa (Bill) McDonald, Amy (Brad) Albrecht; 11 grandchildren, Allison (Robert) Bornheimer, Courtney (John) Felder, Katie (Cody) Mitchel, Megan (Ryan) Doubrava, Josh (Joni) McDonald, Jason (Juline) McDonald, Rachel (James) Messick, Ryan (Lindsay) McDonald, Kylie (fiancé Austin Lukaschewski), Quin (fiancé Lexi Rinne), and Nate Albrecht; 21 great grandchildren, Nolan, Decklyn, Ledger, Isaiah, Sienna, Levi, Colt, Beau, Colin, Peyton, Brody, Cooper, Everly, Miles, Owen, Ezra, Gordon, Dax, Livi, Drew and Summer; a brother, Brent Grodeon; a sister, Lynette Bass; and nieces and nephews.
Keith’s family is forever grateful for the love and compassion he and Donna received from the Brightly staff, who became his second family over the past eight years.
