Mascoutah

   Roger L. Grodeon, 82, of Mascoutah, IL, born June 15, 1943, in Belleville, IL died Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at Freeburg Care Center.

   Roger was a retired 40-year veteran of the Postal Service, retiring as Postmaster of Oakdale, IL. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Mascoutah where he served as Church School Secretary for 30 years, past Sunday School Superintendent, past church board member, an usher over 40 years, and served as church substitute organist. He also played the organ at Zion Lutheran Church’s Christmas concerts for many years.

   Roger was a charter member of The Mascoutah Historical Society as well as the Treasurer for 20 years, past board member of the Mascoutah Heritage Museum, board member and past vice president of the Mascoutah Public Library for over 30 years and served on the Mascoutah Homecoming Parade committee for 40 years. Roger was a member of the National Assn. of Postmasters, St. Clair County Farm Bureau, Heritage House Museum of Okawville, Friends of Zion of Marissa, the Reed Organ Society, and the Little Egypt Chapter 77 Branch of the National Clock and Watch Collectors.

   Roger delivered meals to senior shut-ins as past of Mascoutah Senior Service programs. In 1996, he was named as one of the honorees of the Generations of Success Group of SWIC, where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration, before attending SIUE. In 2011, he was honored as “Person of The Year” by the Mascoutah Chamber of Commerce. Roger was also a member of the MCHS Golden Alumni Association. Roger was strongly committed to the preservation of the history and heritage of Mascoutah, a community he dearly loved.

   Roger had a passion for history, genealogy, music, playing the accordion, melodeon, organ, and piano. He enjoyed traveling to most of the lower 48 states and several foreign countries of central Europe. Roger treasured spending time with his friends, telling stories, and sharing a meal.

   He is preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Thelma, nee Schmitz, Grodeon.

   He is survived by his sister, Evon Hammel, a niece, Ty (Jason) Smith, great nephew, Ethan Smith and great niece, Aubrie Smith.

   VISITATION: From 4 to 7 PM Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL.

   FUNERAL:  A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at Moll Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Davis officiating. Burial will follow in College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, IL.
