Sara Ann Schmersahl

Sara Ann Schmersahl, 43, of Okawville, IL, born Mar. 18, 1982, in Sparta, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, at her home.

Sara was a Class of 2000 graduate of Okawville High School. She went to work at the First National Bank of Okawville as a bank teller and recently bookkeeper for many years. Sara was a big part of the community of Okawville and loved to help out wherever she was needed. She was a member and served as a president of the Chamber of Commerce of Okawville. She helped in the office alongside Sue Lehde at the Okawville Wheatfest and always had a smile on her face.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Lawrence and Margaret Schmersahl, maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Beverly Gale, uncles, Frank and Louis Schmersahl, aunts, Laura, Sandy, and Paige Schmersahl and Christine Gale, and a niece in infancy.

Sara is survived by her parents, John A. and Barbara E., nee Gale, Schmersahl; two children, Abigale and Keegan Schmersahl; three sisters, Emily (Zach) Beyer, Kimberly Schmersahl, Megan Schmersahl; two nieces, Anna Schmersahl and Mackenzie Beyer; a nephew, Cole Spicer; aunts and uncles, Donna Gale, Shirley Alford, Ann (Jim) Coughlin, Pam (Charlie) Terveer, Teresa (Gary) Becker, Larry Gale, Sandy (Nick) Hummert, Cindy Schmersahl, Jim Schmersahl, Joan (Phil) Buss, Helen Bahre, Alice (James) Cline, and Carl Schmersahl; her best friend of many years, Amie McGee; also survived by many cousins and friends.

VISITATION: From 4 to 7 PM Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, IL, and from 9 to 10 AM Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Okawville, IL.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with Pastor Jeffrey Schwab officiating. A private burial will be held in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Lively Grove, IL.
