Verena M. Harwerth, 94, of St. Libory, IL, born July 13, 1931, in Marissa, IL, died Thursday, March 12, 2026, Freeburg Care Center.
Verena worked at various places in her life. She worked for New Athens shoe factory, Spartan Printing, the Belleville News-Democrat, and the St. Libory School. She was a member of St. Liborius Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 683 in St. Libory. Verena enjoyed playing softball, quilting, stitching, crafts, mowing grass, bowling, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna, nee Beelman, Hummert, her husband, Hugo A. Harwerth who died on Apr. 20, 1997, a daughter, Charlene Harwerth, a son, Bruce Harwerth, five siblings, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Verena is survived by two daughters, Verlene Hein of New Athens, IL, Jan (Darcy) Fiorina of St. Libory, IL; six grandchildren, Shawna (DJ) Loberg, Jeremy (Jessica) Hein, Amber (Joe) Walsh, Mandy (Austin) Miller, Ashley (Jack) Malott, Brittany (Adam) Erbse; 16 great grandchildren, Isaiah, William, Hunter, Joseph, Gunner, Samuel, Olivia, Vivian, Barrett, Merritt, Campbell, Gemma, Anthony, Blayke, Truman, Winslow; a sister-in-law, Esther Harwerth; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Liborius Catholic Church.
Funeral: A funeral Mass will be held 11 AM Friday, March 20, at St. Liborius Catholic Church with Father Paul Wienhoff celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Liborius Catholic Cemetery.
